The Arizona Mayors Education Roundtable, a WestEd initiative, organizes events throughout the state to bring together diverse groups to improve education. Past meetings have included provocative discussions with state and national leaders as well as working sessions with local educators and community members. Join an upcoming meeting in your community to learn more and get involved.

With initial funding from the Helios Education Foundation, 10 mayors from across the state have formed the Arizona Mayors Education Roundtable. The virtual organization—managed by WestEd, a research, development and service agency—will provide an important way for mayors to have in-depth discussions about education initiatives and develop common, cohesive strategies for addressing local problems.

This 30-second Public Service Announcement has been developed by the Council of the Great City Schools to increase public awareness and engagement of the Common Core State Standards that have been adopted in 46 states and the District of Columbia.

Common Core Implementation Video Series Developed to help educators, administrators, policymakers and parents better understand the breadth and depth of the Common Core State Standards, these video vignettes demonstrate critical concepts related to the standards in mathematics and English/language arts. They are designed to increase understanding of how the standards will improve teaching, create shared expectations and cultivate lifelong learning for students.

Created by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the Hunt Institute, the video segments can be used individually or packaged together to create a unique learning experience. The videos are useful for educating and engaging key stakeholders and for developing shared expectations about implementation of the standards.

Common Core State Standards: Elementary School This 14 minute video from Teaching Channel provides an overview of how implementation of Common Core will affect practice at the elementary level. The first portion of the video focuses on kindergarten and shows what changes teachers are making in their practice to adopt Common Core.
