Alexis Hermosillo
Alexis Hermosillo proudly serves her second term as Mayor of El Mirage, bringing into her leadership a deep-rooted passion for her hometown. A fifth-generation resident, Mayor Hermosillo is dedicated to enhancing the well being of her community. Her extensive public service background includes roles in the largest public transportation company in Maricopa County, management at a Cesar Chavez Foundation radio network, and a stint as a District Representative for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Nationally, Mayor Hermosillo has championed efforts to address climate change through carbon pricing initiatives and has provided valuable operational and managerial expertise to a variety of state and national nonprofits.
In her current capacity, Mayor Hermosillo actively contributes to several boards and committees:
- City of El Mirage Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Committee
- Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Executive Committee and Regional Council
- Arizona League of Cities and Towns Executive Committee and its General Administration, Human Resources, and Elections Policy Committee
- Arizona League of Cities and Towns Budget Subcommittee
- Luke West Valley Council
- WESTMARC Board of Directors
- Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
- Greater Phoenix Economic Council
Her past leadership roles include chairing the MAG Economic Development Committee and serving on the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Board of Directors. A staunch advocate for women’s empowerment, Mayor Hermosillo has made significant contributions as a board member for the YWCA of Metropolitan Phoenix and has supported the Hispanic Women’s Corporation’s national youth programs. Committed to the future, she invests in the potential of young people, particularly Latino youth, by fostering leadership skills through partnerships with organizations like UnidosUS.
Mayor Hermosillo’s academic achievements include a master’s degree in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary arts and performance from Arizona State University. She is furthering her education by pursuing a doctorate in organizational leadership at Grand Canyon University.
